In a Word

Tuesday, November 12th, 2013

This morning, in the steam room at the “Y”, I was talking with songwriter Alex Harvey (Delta Dawn, Reuben James) who is one of the more interesting and knowledgeable men whom I know. Alex seldom lets an opportunity past that he does not give Jesus Christ honor and glory for all that is good in his life. As we discussed topics ranging from the Twelve Tribes of Israel to audience reactions to live music, Alex made the comment that, “If a person loves as Jesus told us we should, then that person would never break any of the Ten Commandments. It is all about that one word, ‘love’”. I have never heard the truth of Jesus’ injunction to love God and love people put more powerfully or simply.

If each of us chose to do that one thing between now and Christmas, our lives and the lives of countless others would never be the same. Relationships would be healed, hearts would be mended, evil would be erased, pride would morph into humility and we would cease being Christians (and others) in name only. On top of all that, we might have the best Christmas ever.

Something to think about
