Quite Praying and…

getmovinglgA twenty something  Facebook friend posted this: “It’s hard to believe I’m graduating from college already! It feels like yesterday that I set off for Memphis to embark on this crazy journey!” If my math is correct he completed his journey in four years flat! Not bad: it took me twenty-five! But we both made it. Sadly lots of people never start on their journeys.

The first step in a journey of any length is usually the most difficult because at that point there is no momentum. The key to overcoming fear is to move against your fear. I have found that very effective in my own life. You don’t just pray about it, or just think about it, or just talk about it. You get moving.

Exodus 14:15 TLB Then the Lord said to Moses, “Quit praying and get the people moving!”

To live by faith often means doing the thing you fear the most. What is it that scares you today? What seems impossible in your life right now?  One of the tragedies of the Christian life is that often our prayers are what I call “God, please do this for me prayers”.  Those kinds of prayers do not require any faith or any courage whatsoever.  In other words, there comes a time when all of us need to stop using all the right Christian lingo and simply trust God and get moving. In the meantime, remember that one of these days is actually none of these days.
